About Me

I work primarily in watercolor, pastel and colored pencil, and I love to experiment with new art techniques and materials. For the past few years, my interest has rested on creating whimsical imagery and botanical patterns and forms, and Iā€™m currently working on a couple of illustration projects. I am inspired by traditional folk art and modern outsider artists as well as found photographs. In addition to painting, I enjoy making stage props and dabbling in interior design.

My family includes two old dogs and a cat as well as the occasional foster puppy.

My Teaching Philosophy

I am continually inspired by the unbridled enthusiasm children bring to making art, and my goal in the classroom is to reinforce and focus this energy. I work to provide opportunities for students to solve artistic problems and develop their personal artistic language. My job is to act as a facilitator, introduce concepts, techniques and materials and help students sharpen their skills so they can effectively and confidently communicate their vision. I believe there is value in studying the work of diverse artists from around the world and exploring its expressive impact and social meaning. In my classroom, kids are challenged to try new things, see opportunities in their mistakes, and make art that is meaningful to them.
